WELCOME TO ESSENTIALLY ECLECTIC!
There’s a quote from George Bernard Shaw that I love, and it goes like this: “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” If you’re reading this right now, I suspect that quote probably resonates with you too. And if you’re wishing you knew how to “create yourself,” you’re in the right place! It’s something I’ve been learning, and I’m so excited to share my journey with you!
HOW IT ALL STARTED
In 2012 I found myself newly moved from Phoenix, Arizona to Boston, Massachusetts so my husband could attend law school. I was fresh out of a job, friends, or any kind of hobby to fill my time. In 2013 I found a great job, awesome friends, and I had started this blog, but I felt a strange sort of emptiness despite having the things I wanted so badly not long before. In 2014, I fell apart. I felt for the first time the true weight of my chronic illness and began the (still ongoing) process of overcoming it, finding the joy I let it take from me, and
finding creating myself.
As people we grow and develop and change over time, and we draw inspiration from a ton of different places— our unique past experiences, our loved ones, our dreams, our lives. I wanted my blog to reflect that. My blog is, like myself and like you, essentially eclectic! (<—Do you see what I did there?)
Since starting in 2013, Essentially Eclectic has been featured on sites like Good Housekeeping, Babble, Brit.Co, and Buzzfeed and has been an awesome creative outlet and place for self-reflection for me over the years. I hope you enjoy what you find here!
