Last Sunday was my birthday. I turned 26. But I feel like I’ve been 26 for a year already. I think that is because of 1 part sleep deprivation (#newbaby) and 1 part the fact that my husband’s birthday is very shortly after mine, and he’s a year older. So the last birthday we celebrate between us is his, so when I think back to how old someone recently turned I think of his age. Anyway, I digress.
My parents never really made a big deal about birthdays, so I never expect much to happen on my birthday and that’s okay. Now that I’m a new mom I can see the appeal of celebrating that you’ve kept someone alive for another year, the anniversary of what will probably be one of the most painfully beautiful days you’ll ever experience. But I feel that significance towards my daughter’s birthday and not necessarily my own. Anyway, I digress again.
I got a new camera for my birthday! I’ve been wanting a new camera for about three years now. The last time I was in the market for a camera was when I started this iteration of my blog, but back then I knew nothing about photography and was scared to drop several hundred dollars on too-much-camera. So I opted for my trusty bridge camera, my Nikon P510 (they make the P530 now). It allowed me to take MUCH better pictures than my old 12 megapixel point and shoot and afforded me the option of a few manual overrides, but it was in essence still a point and shoot camera. I quickly outgrew it but couldn’t justify the cost of a real DSLR, even an entry-level one, because I felt like I didn’t really have anything worthwhile to take pictures of.
But now? I have something worthwhile to take pictures of. Or, should I say, someone.
Is that a beautiful girl or what??
These were the first few shots out of the new camera, which I’ll probably review at some point. I ended up going with the Nikon D3300. A good entry-level DSLR that doesn’t break the bank but gives me more flexibility for low-light situations (my the whole 3 years I blogged in Boston was a low-light situation) and taking beautiful pictures of Little Bo as she grows up. My heart was initially set on the Canon Rebel T5i, but it was just a bit more than I wanted to spend for a camera with pretty similar specs compared to the one I got.
Anyway, that’s all for now. Little Bo will be 3 months old in about 5 days. She regularly “talks” to us, and her favorite sound/word (which can consistently be elicited by sticking your tongue out at her) is “eckles.” She’s almost sleeping through the night, can hold her head up very well, tolerates tummy time, loves playing with her daddy and napping in the boppy pillow on mommy’s lap after eating.
She is my everything!
